What is Shockwave?

ESWT (extra-corporeal shock wave therapy), also known as  shock wave therapy, by Storz Medical, is the most advanced and highly effective non-invasive treatment method cleared by the FDA.

This proprietary technology uses a unique set of focused pressure waves providing  a break through treatment option for a broad range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions

Common Focused Shockwave (ESWT) Questions

Shoulder shock wave treatment

What disorders can be treated?

  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Rotator cuff injuries/Impingement
  • Knee meniscal injuries/osteoarthritis
  • Golfer's and Tennis Elbow
  • Hip bursitis and piriformis syndrome
  • Ankle sprains and stress fractures
  • Achilles tendinosis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Scar tissue pain

Why consider focused shockwave therapy?

ESWT has a proven success rate that is equal to or greater than that of traditional treatment methods (including surgery) and without the risks, complications and lengthy recovery time.

  • Non-invasive & FDA approved
  • Activates stem cells
  • Enhances blood flow
  • Stimulates collagen synthesis
  • No downtime
  • Over 80% patient satisfaction
  • Regenerates injured tissue

What are the expected results?

The beneficial effects of ESWT are often experienced after only 3 treatments. Some patients report immediate pain relief after one treatment, although generally  4-6 treatment sessions are necessary at weekly intervals. More chronic conditions may require more sessions. The procedure eliminates pain and improves quality of life. Over 80% of patients treated report to be pain free and/or have significant pain reduction.

Does insurance cover shock wave treatment?

Medical insurance does not cover EWST. Patients can use their employer's "Flexible Payment Medical Savings Account" to cover these out-of-pocket expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Is it safe?

Yes. This FDA cleared technology was developed in Europe and is currently used around the globe. A wealth of medical experience, state-of-the-art engineering, and optimal quality have been built into each ESWT device; and extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and efficacy.

If performed by a qualified caregiver, ESWT has virtually no risks or side effects.

EWST is unsuitable in the following circumstances:

  • If you are pregnant
  • If you have a blood clotting disorder (including thrombosis)
  • If you are taking oral anti-coagulants (blood thinners)
  • If you have received a steroid injection in the past 6 weeks
  • If tumors are present at the treatment site
  • If you have an infection or wound at the treatment site
